This chat occurred over five years after a previous phone contact between the two leaders led to Trump’s initial impeachment. On social media, Trump and Zelenskyy disclosed the specifics of their conversation, stating that the president of Ukraine commended Trump for his selection as the Republican nominee and denounced the attempted murder on Saturday. Trump called it a “very good phone call.” Trump has maintained that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine “would have never happened” if he were still president.
