Sad News: Brandon Aiyuk…….read more

After failing to secure a contract extension from the San Francisco 49ers, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has reportedly asked them to trade him.

There is still a chance he will receive an extension, but now there is a real possibility they will end up losing him, one way or another.

While many have urged Aiyuk to be patient about securing his bag from San Francisco, others feel he would be better off leaving, even though it would likely mean giving up a real shot at winning a Super Bowl championship.

Fox Sports 1 analyst Emmanuel Acho is in the latter group, and he feels Aiyuk should leave not just to get paid what he’s worth, but also to get more touches because, in his mind, Aiyuk is only the 49ers’ third option on offense, per 95.7 The Game.

“The best way to handle it (for Aiyuk) is the way that gets you paid!” said Acho. “If you are Aiyuk, you should want out because you gotta eat and you are the third option on the team!”

It’s hard to accurately call Aiyuk merely the team’s third option when he led them in receptions (75) and receiving yards (1,342) and was tied for the team lead with seven receiving touchdowns.

Running back Christian McCaffrey is San Francisco’s top option on offense, and for good reason, as he’s the reigning Offensive Player of the Year who finished 2023 with 1,459 rushing yards, 564 receiving yards and 21 total touchdowns.

But while tight end George Kittle could be the best in the NFL at his position, Aiyuk has surpassed him in the Niners’ pecking order, at least as far as their passing game is concerned.

The Niners are steadfastly refusing to consider trading Aiyuk, and it’s no wonder why, as doing so would likely remove them from the list of teams that could realistically win it all this coming season.
