With Carlos Sainz leading the way in first practice, Ferrari is off to a strong start in the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. In an attempt to address bouncing issues at high speeds and low ride heights, Ferrari has brought a reworked floor to Budapest following a dismal recent run that dates back to the Canadian Grand Prix in June. The Hungaroring’s slower pace than Silverstone and Barcelona, where bouncing has proved particularly problematic and led Ferrari to back off on aerodynamic modifications, will undoubtedly be beneficial. With the soft C5 compound Pirelli, Sainz’s quickest lap of the day, which timed 1 minute, 18.713 seconds, appeared to strike the ideal mix of speed-reducing understeer at the beginning of the lap, which is used to prevent the rear tires from overheating excessively.
