Alice Procter, a British amateur jockey, had spine surgery after suffering a severe fall at Cartmel Racecourse.
On Saturday, July 20, in the Cartmel Female Jockeys Handicap Hurdle, Alice, 21, was riding the six-year-old Uggy Uggy Uggy for trainer Keiran Burke when the two collapsed at the second flight.

Alice complained back pain right away, and the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) said in a statement on Sunday that she was taken by helicopter to the major trauma center at Royal Preston Hospital.

The operating team took care of her as she was brought to the theater.

According to a second IJF update released on Monday, July 21, Alice is still receiving critical treatment in the hospital.

She can speak for brief periods of time and is cognizant.
