Max Verstappen’s grid drop gave Leclerc the lead, although the Monegasque finished the race behind both Mercedes drivers and Oscar Piastri of McLaren. Leclerc led the first lap but could not hold off Lewis Hamilton as he stormed through on the Kemmel Straight with DRS on the third lap. Leclerc held that position during the pit stops, but Piastri passed him due to a slowdown in speed during the final stint, and he was unable to catch the fast-moving George Russell.
