A fire broke out late Monday evening at the Marbella home of tennis star Novak Djokovic, causing significant damage to the property. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
According to local reports, the fire started around 8:00 PM and quickly spread through part of the luxury villa, located in the exclusive Sierra Blanca area. Djokovic and his family were not at the residence at the time of the fire, which made the response from emergency services faster and more focused on containing the damage.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and were able to bring the blaze under control after about an hour. However, a portion of the house sustained serious damage, with the living room and several other areas reportedly destroyed. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but early indications suggest it may have been the result of an electrical malfunction.
Djokovic, who owns several properties around the world, purchased the Marbella villa in 2020 as a primary residence for him, his wife Jelena, and their two children. The property, known for its stunning views of the Mediterranean, has been a tranquil retreat for the 24-time Grand Slam champion during breaks from the grueling tennis circuit.
In a statement issued by Djokovic’s representatives, the tennis player expressed gratitude for the quick action of the firefighters and relief that no one was harmed. “We are deeply thankful to the emergency services for their swift response. While this is a difficult time, we are fortunate that everyone is safe. Our family will take time to assess the damage and determine the next steps, but for now, we are focusing on staying together and recovering from this event.”
Neighbors and fans have expressed their support on social media, offering well-wishes to Djokovic and his family. Some of Djokovic’s fellow athletes, including close friend Andy Murray, also sent messages of solidarity.
The incident comes just as Djokovic was preparing for the final stretch of the 2024 tennis season. It is unclear if this event will impact his upcoming schedule, though his management has stated that his focus remains on family safety for now.
